What is the best way to airbrush masks?

First always check if the mask is pushed down correctly. Prevent overspray.

ONE GOLDEN RULE: Airbrush light layers and slowly build up your color. Take your time.

DO NOT flood the mask. Use the spare masks to find the right pressure of the airbrush, right distance and different soft angles to airbrush. Try the spares

Why 'spare masks'?

They allow you to try the mask and to get a feel of the product. They are marked with an "X". Each product contains 10 spares . Spares are meant to practice.

How to get the small instruction texts 'intact' on the model?

Remove the mask very slowly from the sheet using the neutralized corner. Position on the model. Once in place gently push down, using a piece of paper or other. This has to be done to avoid direct contact with your fingers and a possible rubbing effect directly on the small texts, when pushing down. Once pushed down, you can not reposition it.

How long can I leave the mask on the model?

2 days maximum. It could stay on longer, but as temperature, humidity and UV are factors that can vary, 1 ManArmy advises to leave the mask on no longer than necessary.

How to remove a mask from a model?

You will discover the usefulness of the 'untacky' corner. Remove the mask using tweezers and do this very slowly, allowing the mask to slowly and fully detach. Doing this too fast, will result in small particles of the mask tearing off. Try the spares first.

Can I use transfer tape on the small text stencils?

NO! The small text stencils are delicate and should be protected from other tapes by a small piece of paper. The small stencils will do perfect without. Try the spares.

When I position a small text stencil, can I reposition it?

You can position and reposition the text stencil, without pushing it down. Once on the right place, you can push it down. Once pushed down, you can not reposition it.

When is the small stencil-mask 'ready', when airbrushing?

It needs a lot a light layers to fill the very small incisions. Once the yellow mask has turned completely black, the stencil will be OK.

As the color of the stencils is nearly always black, you can airbrush several masks at a time, obtaining an instant result. First try the spare samples enclosed.

Why the 'neutralized' corner?

It allows you to use the tweezers more easily to position the mask and in the end it will allow you to remove the mask, without touching or scratching the model/paint.

When still on the backing, bend the the reference number-corner and apply a small triangle of masking tape on the sticky side, in order to neutralize the corner. Then use tweezers to slowly remove.

Why transfer tape?

Transfer tape is the easy solution to move the mask to the model while keeping its shape, when positioning. It can be used for various masks to hold them "together" while transferring. Transfer should be used for nearly all masks, except for the small stencils.

What transfer tape should I use?

Any low tack masking tape is OK.

What are the small black dots after having removed the mask?

When you remove the stencil text mask too quickly, small pieces of the text stencil may detach and look like small black dots. The colour of the dots depending on the colour you airbrushed. Use a magnifier and a pair of tweezers to remove them.

What is the User Manual?

This manual describes the way to use the product in order to obtain the best possible results. Please read or download it. There is a User Manual enclosed in each product.

What is the Instruction Sheet?

The Instruction Sheet shows where to place the stencils on the model. There is an Instruction Sheet enclosed in each product.

How can I make positioning of masks easier?

Use a headband magnifier and an additional light source, from the side.
